The Womb - Perceiving from within is an interactive art installation, engulfing the participant in an o r g a n i c and r e l a x i n g environment.
When entering the hanging crochet structure, the focus of their perception is shifted from their usually primarily visual experience of a space to that of the live soundscape surrounding them.
The installation was designed for the visitors of an urban park called Karolinelund in the centre of Aalborg (Norhtern Denmark), where The Womb was exhibited in May 2018.
the intention:
The Womb was designed to provide an engulfing, soft experience, where participants are placed in a new space, within the familiar atmosphere of the park. Inside the womb one can get comfortable, and in lack of visual disturbances can focus on listening. The entire soundscape of the park can be heard at once, therefore revealing an environment that could not be percieved before. The strong and stretchy fabric used to crochet The Womb's inner and outer layers enables it to adapt to the participants body.

the experience
When inside, one sees the rays of light gently entering through the spiral structure of the womb all around them.
The project was brought to life as a fourth semester project at the interdisciplinary problem based bachelor's degree, Art and Technology at Aalborg University, Denmark. The team: Anna Major, Siyana Raykovska and Melinda Varro. We designed, built, exhibitied and evaluated the academic and artistic project during one semester.
